HOW IS AN ACUPUNCTURIST TRAINED?

Currently, in order to become a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in Montana, practitioners must graduate from a nationally accredited school or program and be certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

This certification requres:
* A Minimum of 3 Years Post-Graduate Work
* Over 1,900 hours of schooling.
* A Minimum of 660 hours spent treating patients in a clinical setting.
* A Minimum of 720 hours of education in Chinese herbal medicine.
* Certification in Clean Needle Technique.
* Extensive coursework in biomedicine, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

WHAT INSURANCES DO YOU ACCEPT?

Although some insurance carriers have added acupuncture to their list of covered services, it's not universally covered. Be sure to check with your insurance provider if acupuncture is something they reimburse on your plan. You can be provided with a receipt to submit to your insurance carrier so you can get reimbursement, if covered.

ARE ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES REUSED?

Never! Acupuncture needles are never reused, and to ensure it, if you want, you can watch your acupuncturist open the sealed needles before use, and/or dispose of the used needles at the end of your treatment.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

Acupuncture is a procedure using ultra thin needles to stimulate precise points on the body for the purpose of improving your health. It does this by regulating the circulation of vital energy, blood, and nerve impulses.

Qi (pronounced "chee") is the Chinese word for "vital energy". It is the force behind every bodily function. An experienced acupuncturist, with your help, can detect areas where this energy is disrupted and correct it with appropriate treatments.

The presence and manipulation of an acupuncture needle stimulates or sedates those systems of the body that are out of balance.
